Saudi Arabia found a lot more natural gas at its Jafurah field, which is owned by the state oil company aramco. This discovery boosts the country's energy sector. The new gas reserves are about 15 trillion cubic feet, along with two billion barrels of a substance called condensate. Now, the total estimated resources at Jafurah are around 229 trillion cubic feet of gas and 75 billion barrels of condensate.
Jafurah is an unconventional gasfield located southeast of another big oilfield called Ghawar. Unconventional resources are those that need special methods to extract. Saudi Arabia plans to develop this field. In 2021, Aramco awarded contracts worth $10 billion for this. The total spending for developing Jafurah over the first 10 years was expected to be $68 billion.
Jafurah is huge, covering 17,000 square kilometers. It's expected to produce a lot of natural gas—2 billion cubic feet per day by 2030, up from 200 million cubic feet per day in 2025. It will also produce other valuable substances used in industries.
This project will make Saudi Arabia one of the biggest natural gas producers globally. Aramco plans to invest more than $100 billion in Jafurah over its lifetime. Aramco believes this project will create over 200,000 jobs directly and indirectly in Saudi Arabia.
